Yea I believe it, Im not going to go with the loudest. I just want a nice roughness that you can hear coming down the street.

Re: Loud Mufflers
Finding the right exhaust tone is really hard. There are too many variables to hear a muffler, like it, buy and install it and it sounds completely different than you though it would. I want a good low rumble at idle and a nice louder low rumble when you get on it (with no cackle - I hate the cackle). I have listened to many Flowmaster systems (40, 44 & 50's) online, but it all depends on the sound quality of the clip. I've listened to 100's of sound clips and have not been able to pick one yet. Good luck in your search.

IMO, Flowmasters suck. Not only do they sound like hell and drone real bad, but they rob horsepower, too. If you want a nice mellow rumble at idle, but good sound when you get on it with no horsepower loss then Magnaflow or DynoMax is the only choice.

I just need to find some locals that are running the Magnaflow and DynoMax mufflers and give them a listen. Sounds off the internet just aren't cuttin it.
I just listened to papabugs71 on youtube and it sounds pretty good.

I agree entirely. Flowmasters are absolutely horrible. I can't stand the drone.BobbyFord wrote:IMO, Flowmasters suck. Re: Loud Mufflers
I gotta go with the Cherry Bombs on this one...I had a '67 Pontiac LeMans at one time. It had a standard 350 in it, but those Cherries set off car alarms everywhere I went!!! When I revamp the exhaust on my '70 F250, I'm mulling over a Thrush kit that Summit has on their site.
Does Flowmaster and Magnaflow still make kits for older trucks? Their sites seem to cater to newer trucks or older muscle cars.
I just caught the update-didn't know Flowmaster stole horsepower and had a sad tone...
Regards,

Re: Loud Mufflers
I have the flow tech. not much drone. They have a nice low rumble constantly and then when you get going the rumble gets nicely louder.

Re: Loud Mufflers
I'm running Thrushes on my F100. I usually drive it to work Fridays just to run it once a week. The other day I pulled into the paking lot and one of the guys asked me if there was a kit he could add to his Nissan pickup to get the same sound as my F100. I said "sure, put in a V-8".cmoore wrote:I gotta go with the Cherry Bombs on this one...I had a '67 Pontiac LeMans at one time. My V8 and stock mufflers run a nice tone, but its not that loud. I want a decent loud one, I got a 351w which roars.

Re: Loud Mufflers
My 71 has some glasspacks on it that the last owner put on and they are "ok" except for the fact that at idle it will give the most annoying pop that will scare the crap out of you. Would that mean the mufflers are in need of replacement or something else?

Re: Loud Mufflers
I wouldn't think you'd need new ones. The glasspacks I used to have on my 70 would pop a little at idle but when you would run up the rpm's and drop it in to a lower gear it would really make a POP!!!dhawthorne15 wrote:My 71 has some glasspacks on it that the last owner put on and they are "ok" except for the fact that at idle it will give the most annoying pop that will scare the crap out of you. Re: Loud Mufflers
my 67 has a glass pack that is starting to fall apart on the inside.. they are probally 10 if not more years old.. grandpa (God rest his soul) put it on there after the original exhaust system rusted and fell off. The pip comes right from the Y then to the long glass pack the shortly after there makes a 45 angle and exits in front of the tire.
I mean to say this it is LOUD i can hear my self think but barely and if the passenger window is down forget it.
Though it is fun to down shift or engine brake down a hill here in town and hear the popping noise.
ok sorry for rambling but loud exhaust can be cool but there is a point were its annoying, around here there a LOT of chevy guys that make there truck so loud that it rattles my house when they drive by. Though my wife claims she can hear me coming home from a mile away..*really need to fix that exhaust*
again sorry for rambling

I don't really care about brands Chevy Ford Dodge ...as long as it doesn't sound like two old dudes farting in a coffee can.
