Post by 390F100 »

Is there a difference between a 68 in cab tank and a 72 in cab tank? will a 72 work in a 68?

Someone correct me if im wrong, it should fit. Line may be a different size and some had an emmisions line on there or somthing like that, nothing a few adapters won't fix. But tank should strap right in. Don't know on sending unit differences and plug if your using the 72. Also not sure on cluster components i.e voltage stablized, guages vs idiot lights. Not much help huh.

Yes, the tank will work just fine. Some later tanks have a larger fuel line size and are vented for evaporative emissions but an adapter will take care of the fuel line and you can run the vent to your original filler tube (just don't leave it open!). I have a 76 tank from an F350 in my 67 F250. Hawkrod

It will fit but it will take a small modification to mount it... Keith has already done the info on the differences here http://www.fordification.com/67-72ID.htm about half way down the page.

I finally picked up the new tank today and it is pretty clean. I ended up paying 60 for it but not too bad a deal I guess. It came with all the evap tubing and switching valves which I do need but oh well, if someone here needs them let me know, they will be free except for a small donation the forum. I'll keep you posted on the progress..

Thanks

along the same question is there a difference in sending units in the same year even say a 69 18.5 gallon and a 69 20 gallon? (not exact on the two sizes available)that is is the rod angled different or longer/shorter respctively?

I swapped a SU from a 70 to a 72 and i think the 72 is a bigger tank than the 70. as the unit in the 72 won't reg below a quarter and at full reads only 3/4 and 3/4 only shows half and empty is a 1/4 tank. but when removed from the tank if i swng it full range it works correctly. and i allready checked it for being fuel logged. unless the 70's bobber was a heavier replacement?
