Keith, thanks for all the hard work.
Is it in the phBB software?
If so, is it time to trade over to vBulletin?

vBulletin is also written in PHP, so I really don't think switching over to that would make much of an improvement, to be honest with you. Besides, I really don't think it's the forum causing problems with the server, I think it's more a matter of our web hosts causing problems with the forum.

...and I appreciate the offers guys, but let's just wait and see how things go. If I need help, I'll ask...but for now, I think we're OK. :D

Keith, have you considered setting up your own server and hosting the site on it? :)

Not only would that way a bit beyond my current capabilities, it would be way too time-consuming. Besides, with the current bandwidth requirements due to the number of folks visiting the forums and site, the site has to be on a T1 or T3 hookup...my high-speed cable connection here just wouldn't cut it.

On a semi-related note, I accidentally found myself on our host's own support forum this afternoon, and I did a little reading there. I ran across a post where some other folks were reporting the same kinds of problems we've been experiencing (getting the "forbidden" error message when using certain keywords in a post) and a solution was posted there by a member. It was actually just modifying a certain server file to turn off the security setting that scans the posts. I decided to try it out on ours and found out it works!

Here are the keywords which were triggering the error message:

rm
"quotation marks"
cat

The 'rm' and 'cat' both have spaces after them, so as you can see they did make it through. That means there should be no more error messages when making a post and no more creative workarounds necessary when using a word such as 'arm'. :D

If anyone DOES get the error message, please let me know what you were doing when you got it and what the contents of your post or PM was so I can check into it.

No, not yet....too many other family-related things going on right now and I haven't had the time to get started. It'll be soon though.
