gt-40 heades or not?

Post by ContryboyFE »

i just bought my wife an '87 F150 ex-cab sb(6'9" not 6'6" by the way). it has the 351w, carb, C6. i want to squeez out as much gas milage as possable. i thought edelbrock carb, headers, 3" into 2.5" duel outlet flowmasters, and thought new heads possablly. this is where you all come in? i've been told that gt-40 heads were good but are there better heads for a reasoable price. if you the have money there are heads out there but i dont have alot. whats the differance between gt-40, gt-40x, gt-40p? :? :hmm:

The gt40 head came factory on first gen Lightnings and 5.0 Cobras and early 5.0 Explorers(96-97). The gt40p came on later explorers and they are slightly better than the gt40 and will bump up your compresion a hair also. Only set back is on the gt40p head it is a straight plug hole were as the gt40 is angled. Just make sure the headers you are using are compatiable for "p" heads. I just put a new gt40p crate motor in my 95 f150 and I had to modify(hammer and drift) one of the back pass side tubes to have clearance to put in my #4 spark plug and boot. My headers are the stainless ford racing headers and are supose to be "p" head compatiable..go figure. Big improvement in power over my old e7 headed 5.0. The gt40x heads are super sweet aluminum heads and are more suited to higher horse aplications were you are running a larger cam. Go with the gt40 if you cant find headers for the gt40p style.

I have a set of E7TE off a 96 5.8l if you are needing a better set of heads compared to the E6AE or E6TE your 86 has on it. You are close to me if you want them they are yours. Im tired of tripping over them in the shop. :D

they were on an "EFI" 5.8 in 96 would they work on a carberated 5.8? :? if we were talking FE's and bumps i'd be fine but all this EFI to carb and EEC's and trans control mods i'm clueless. :hmm: if they will work how much do you want for them?
