Master cylinder replacement tips

Post by 91Bear »

I need to replace my master cylinder and was wondering if any of you have tips to make the job easier.

No power brakes, just hydraulic.

Well, let's see... It's pretty straightforward. Just unbolt one and bolt in the other.
* Compare the new one to the old one before you get started to make certain you've got the right part.
* You do have to bleed the new master cylinder before installing it though. Just follow the directions that came with it.
* And you'll have to bleed your whole system as well and we can help you with that if you need it.
* You might consider painting your new one or it will end up looking like the old one in short order.
* Finally, use a flare wrench to loosen your brake line fittings. A regular wrench tends to slip. Good luck.

Make sure when it's all installed and you check the levels its on flat or close to level ground or you'll have brake fluid on unwanted areas.
