ok so heres the problem, my 360 is on its last legs, it ran good until the timing chain went out and then it sat for two years, i sank $400 into it just to get it runing, now its misfiring horribly, the lifters on the drivers side are really loud and it will only stay running in park, drop it in gear and feather the gas and it will stay running but if i press the gas to go faster or if i let off to coast it dies. i have a 77 f150 4x4 that im thinking about parting out with a 400m, they both have c6 transmissions. i just need to finish hooking the gas tank in the 77 to see if it runs good, if it does do you guys think i should swap in the 400 or should i sink more money into the 360 for a rebuild?
oh yea i forgot the big issue... i dont have a job

with the 77 being a 4x4 your going to have trans work to do to use it in your truck. not to mention exhaust.
Spend a little time with the 360 and see what's really wrong with it.
start with a compression test.
Part the 77 engine and all and fix the 360 .
Won't be easy to give that 400 away though.
I'm obviously a FE fan
its a vacuum leak. is it worht it to fix the vacuum leak or swap engines? spray soem carb cleaner around the vacuum hoses to find the leak the engine will rev up when the leak is found. do you have a brake booster?
i think it would be worth it to track down the leak because the 360 only has 84k miles and i dont know what the 400 has. but my mechanic friend told me it is possibly a flat cam causing the miss fire or the valves are stuck... this is my first truck that has needed work like this so i have no idea how to diagnose the symptoms of a bad part. idk about the brake booster, i do have power brakes but they dont work, the second it started and i went to put it in gear and it blew two brake lines.
