Steering Column From a 79 Ford Van

Post by Mikey »

Will the auto steering column out of a 79 Ford E150 Van work in a 70 F100?
Thanks,
Mikey

No, the van column is 3"-4" longer than a truck column, although most of the parts will work on a truck column. The center shaft, shift tube and lower lever, and outer tube are the only parts you can't use, everything else on the van column will work on the truck version.

I also have a column out of an early Bronco set up for an auto. Will this work? My plan is to replace the manual with a smallblock C6 tranny.
Thanks,

Hmmmm.....I'll have to think on all this.

I just got the truck for free from my carpooler who didn't want to haul it to the junk yard. This truck is in pretty good shape! Mainly needs cosmetics....motor mounts and rear leaf is missing a leaf, I think. All stock, no smoke!

I have a 79 Van that won't smog and won't sell so I plan on mining it for parts for my Bronco and truck. A/C and power steering pump upgrade to the Bronco....Duraspark, CA6 and power disks to the truck.

I've done power disk conversions on the Bronco, Cougar and Lincoln Mark VII conversion on the 86 Capri so I'm well versed in brakes. Been working on cars, starting with the 68 Cougar, when I was 15 and am approaching 41. Cougar is near show car and the Bronco was the new project. Mechanicals nearly done and ready for cosmetics. When offered the free truck, Wahoo! As my wife say, Oh no! Here we go again!

OK, done babbling for now.
