Painting Brake Drums

Post by bm52 »

We just got our brake drums turned, and are ready to clean the rust off and paint them. Any suggestions on what type of paint to use, or not to use? I don't think these get hot enough to warrant high-heat paint, but I wanted to see if anyone had any suggestions.

I used just regular old Rustoleum on one of my hot rods, worked great.

I've always had pretty OK luck blasting them to clean off the rust and then using engine enamel which I then bake in the oven (when my wife isn't home :shh: ) for about an hour at 200 degrees. Seems to hold up pretty well.

I wire brushed mine and painted them with a black automotive spray paint and they are still holding up good even after a pennsylvania winter
