1976 FORD F250 SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC: FOUNDATION COMPONENTS: HOSES, LINES/PIPING, AND FITTINGS

Build Years/Makes/Models: 1976 FORD F250
Units affected: 10,818
Recall Number: 76V078000
Owner Notification Date: June 28, 1976
Recall Creation Date: October 12, 1979
Component Description: SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC: FOUNDATION COMPONENTS: HOSES, LINES/PIPING, AND FITTINGS
Manufacturer Involved in This Recall: Ford Motor Company
Manufacturer Responsible for This Recall: Ford Motor Company
Report Received Date: June 1, 1976
Summary: Ford Truck Campaign No. 196. 4x4 Light-Duty Trucks. Possibility trucks may have been produced with insufficient clearance between the brake master cylinder primary or secondary outlet tube and the intermediate steering shaft. Assembly methods resulted in deformation of the tube support bracket and misassembly of the brake tubes to the inboard side of the tube support bracket. A bent support bracket in combination with inboard mounting of brake tubes could cause tube to contact the steering shaft and, eventually could result in wearing a hole in tube wall.
Consequence: Should this occur, brake fluid and hydraulic pressure would be lost in either the front or rear portion of the dual brake system. The operator would be warned by brake light and an increase in brake pedal travel.
Remedy: Correct by inspecting and replacing tube that have been in contact with steering shaft. Also, adjust clearance to be .75 inch or more.
