1974-1975 B-Series and 1975 F-Series Trucks and Bus Chassis. Possibility
that the front spring hanger bracket on which the channel and side plate
components are insufficiently secured with upset rivets. |

Consequence: |
If this condition exists,
brackets installed on vehicles with frame reinforcements at the location
of bracket attachment could become loose and crack in severe duty
service. This cracking may result in complete separation of bracket from
frame. This, in turn, could allow front axle displacement or separation
from vehicle with loss of steering control with little or not warning to
driver. In addition, Ford Parts and Service Division has reported sales
of approximately 1,500 suspect spring hanger brackets as replacement
parts for 1967 through 1973 B-Series vehicles. |
| Remedy:
|
Correct by inspecting and
replacing hanger brackets with new FMVSS 121 level components using
special bolts instead of rivets. |
