In a nutshell... the previous owner started the tilt. He welded home-fab'ed hinges on the bottom of the frame. He then (not sure of any order of sequence) cut the frame (with a saw not a torch)in front of the radiator, so the whole thing goes forward. I've seen another tilt job on this site that looked very professional where it tilted above the bumper, thus, not cutting the frame rails.

I would like to get a fiberglass hood to reduce the weight. But that's future talk... Oh and no comments about the nasty looking coil springs please Right Keith? My guess there is that the guy was maybe going for a lowered look with the 4x4 still intact? Just a guess but you can see where the coils were heated.. Maybe he was mocking it up and was actually going to get lowered coils, etc....

My plans are to put the proper springs back under the front end along with new bushings, etc.

how is that front clip held closed while driving or does it just rely on windage? if so don't hit the brakes too hard.

You could always use a set of rubber straps like the big rigs do!

I usually take a vise grip and clamp the hinges at the two flat spots that come together when the hood is fully opened. Holds it up just enough I miss it 90% of the time.
