Holes in dash.

Post by Fordkid68 »

Hello, I removed my dash pad because it was cracked, and like the looks of it bare better, so am not going to replace it. but before I paint it I want to plug the slotted holes for the dash pad. I tried JB- welding a piece of metal underneath so that I could putty over it, but the glue did not stick.

Has anyone ever tried to plug these holes? And what did you use?

If you aren’t up to welding them then I would thoroughly sand and clean the surface under and surrounding each hole and then use a good two part panel adhesive to bond the small metal patches.

We did a finish look to a buddy's 70's like this. The windshield needed replacement anyway, so we pulled it, MIG welded plugs in those holes. Finished off the surface, and painted it before windshield install.
It turned out awesome, gave his truck a very "classic" "old school" look.

Adam,
If you still have your old dash pad, inside the heater duct area of the pad, there are two metal covers that fit over the heater duct holes perfectly. You basically have to destroy your old dash pad to get them, but if you're going pad-less anyhow, it makes the dash look better, and gives you a few less holes to fill!!

Thanks! I will try this. I might pull the windshield to do seals anyway, so it will work.

Thank you! I already pulled the vents out. When I removed the dash pad I saw they were in there, and was surprised Ford made them like that!
