Man, I have done that so many times! My hood droops a little and puts that thing right in line with the top of my head. I painted it irridescent orange - that didn't work. So now I always hang a little strip of tape from it while I'm working under the hood. I sense that tape waving around and don't collide with that latch. I feel your pain.

Get yourself a tennis ball (or a large styrofoam ball from a craft store) and make a slice in it....slide it over the latch whenever you're going to be working under the hood. Might save you from a getting yer noggin damaged. Just remember to remove it before slamming the hood shut.

I never can remember that thing, and I always hit my head on it over and over again. It also gets to be funny seeing my dad hit that thing over and over again, it seems like no matter how many years he has worked on these types of trucks, he still forgets about that latch.

re: that blasted hood latch
I must have scar tissue an inch thick on my noggin. No wonder hair can't grow there anymore. I usually tie a shop rag around them. Seems like the 67-72s are prone to weak hood springs and the hood doesn't stay up. I have a telescoping rod I use to keep the hood full up.
Those 70s GM intermediates were horrible, that one hung down about a foot and was sharp.
I really like the Mecedes, they have little latches you can pull that lets the hood go straight up.

Great ideas have always encounter violent opposition from mediocre minds.

re: that blasted hood latch
I think some sick person invented that........lets make the hoodsprings weak and then put a point on the edge of the latch but yeah i've drawn blood once or twice

I keep a stick exactly one meter long(approx. 39") on top of the fender apron to avoid such occurances...
This is the point...I'm....talking about everybody! I'm talking about form! I'm talking about content! I'm talking about interrelationships! I'm talking about God, the devil, hell, heaven!!!! Do you understand???? Finally!!!!

Here's one way to stop hitting your head on the latch...

Ditto on the tilt frontend get more pics of the hinges. All it needs is a stop so it doesn't set on the ground, but MORE INFO PLEASE.
