I had the same problem and it turned out to be a vacuum cap off. The cap for the hookup for power brakes that I don't have popped off and it sucked too much air. As mentioned before, several things could cause this. For vacuum leaks, listen for a hissing sound under the hood.

ok lets check the ignition switch. can you wiggle the switch up and down without turning it while its running and get it to cut out? if yes replace switch. if no it is a different problem maybe a carb adjustment is in order.

If I was guessing that would be my first. Definitely check all the bases before attacking the carb, carb settings generally don't just change or drift off by themselves.

I also thought of another thing, my 390 doesn't like some of the 10% alky and won't idle if I use it. If I use Sinclair 10%, I end up heel and toeing it to keep it running at stops.

loose wires under the hood. Coil to switch push on terminal or coil to dizzy. I had the power to the vehicle drop out and the cause was a taped over wire splice near the starter solenoid.
