I still havent sold my 460 block thats been bored .030 over. Im contemplating the idea of using that block (D9) instead of the DIVE block. Even though with the latter, the bottom end of the engine is back together.

Things Im considering....

The crank for the D9 needs to be at least polished, if not ground. I have no idea what that would cost vs a new external balance crank.

Both blocks are good. One was cleaned at the machine shop, the other cleaned up by me. (didn't do too bad of a job) But without the good eye of a machinist.

I have spent money on new main bearings, new rod bearings, and new piston rings for the DIVE block. Would hate for that investment to go to waste. But the idea of building at least a 466 if not a 521 is starting to appeal to me.

The rods with the DIVE block are the passenger style rods, ave read that they are more likely to fail cause of how they are machined, but duno how often they fail vs the truck rods.

The rods for the D9 were tossed, 3 rod caps were missing anyway.

Seeing that the crank needs attention, and I'm unsure of the longevity of the car style rods in a 400+ hp engine, and the over bore....

A stroker kit seems like the obvious choice for the D9 block.

The cost for a 521 vs 466 is about the same. Tho I havent found a 466 kit that is external balance.

But at $1600...I could finish the DIVE engine, and have it in the truck running..including a replacement radiator.

What would you do?

I have nothing to do with these guy's but my brother's replacing his 521" with a 556". He got the rotating assembly from these guy's. http://www.cnc-motorsports.com/default.asp
Check out the prices here. You can get a "New" Scat 9000 4.125"crank for $266. A 4.3" for $354.
