well guess what it wasn't the chain, I tend to overreact on these things, turned out that the points were pretty much gone, So I got new points and condenser along with a new coil from napa today everything started up nicely, although the engine does seem to run hot, the distributor is hot to the touch, I know I don't yet have the points set properly yet. checked the timeing and appears to be between 10 and 12 degrees, engine still diesled some but after leaning up the choke to the 2nd mark to the left it seemed to solve that problem. I just want to thank all of you for the advice and knowledge you have given to me. I will keep ya posted if anyother problems should arise over the next several days.

Your more than welcome. Happy to help.
If your engine diesels after you shut if off there are a few things it could be.
Make sure it's not over heating, you mentioned you thought it was getting hot.
Check the idle speed, it should be close to 650 rpm in neutral if it's a manual trans and closer to 550-600 in drive if it's an auto trans.
A vacuum leak can cause it to diesel too. A vacuum leak will usually increase the idle speed and you can not set it down by using the idle speed adjusting screw.
If the idle air/fuel mixture is too lean it can also cause the engine to diesel.
If you partially cover the top of the carb with the engine running and the rpms increase then the mixture is too lean.
If you have any troubles or have more questions please feel free to ask.

There's a good chance your friend that lent you the timing light might also have a dwell/tachometer.

I have spun the balancer ring in a race and thrown my timing off on an FE.
