CNC Billet Aluminum Ash Tray 'Pull Thingy' (Now for Sale)
Wanna make these to compliment the dome lamp bezel project.
Been thinking about it for a good bit. Drew it up this evening and figured how to hold it. Plan on writing the program tomorrow and proofing it out. Gotta get a stick of 1" x .5" aluminum and cut it down to 2.25" lengths first.
Not set on price, thinking @ $10 shipped. Maybe less depending on machine time.
More info to come...

Jamie,
Put me on the list again please. I've already had to replace one of the "plastic" ones that was cracked.
I know you're quality will be second to none!

What a nuisance when the metal supplier doesn't have any metal...
I have a couple chunks of .5" x 5" that I have to rip in the bandsaw before playing with the mill...
Any it's raining again and cold down in the garage (I put the wood stove away last week as well)
Only in MAY

Pictures...
Not quite yet, got discussed with the weather and the thought of ripping a 1/2" thick sheet of aluminum on my poor bandsaw, went in and hugged the woodstove, layed down on the sofa and took a three hour nap.
Gonna at least take some pics of the print I sketched up to do the work. Maybe that'll satisfy the craving.
I did get a call a couple minutes ago from the metal house and the aluminum will be in sometime between 7:30am and 2:30pm.

Thunderfoot, here ya go...
The mill has a really basic preview function so you can see if the G code is really whacked out. This is the drill cycle;
This shot shows the mill cycle in yellow for each part after the drill cycle. The blue dotted lines are rapid moves. Each cut starts at the top left and goes clockwise around the part then exits with a radius away from the part.
Some peices of MDF wafer board just wating to get milled. Much easier to work with vs aluminum.
Tuning in the program
Chicken scratch... Lots of lined out mistakes. The diagram next to the part shows the plot points for the cuts. I had to move my X axis around a bit to get the machine work on the part where I wanted it (less waste)
More chicken scratch showing the basic part.
Work in progress... Took a good many chunks to tune it in and added a couple more cuts so I wasn't taking all it it off in one pass.
Now that I have the program where I want it I'll mill out a bunch of prototype parts so I can do the other step and have enough to cover the mistakes. That's tomorrows problems.

That sure is some funny looking aluminum you are using.
