68f250 I think you have summarized all well. Yes, the amp meter is actually measuring volts. Actually, from what I read all the meters, use the same principle. What makes the meters different is the circuits and sensitivities. The ratio of the current in the #10 bat wire to the gauge wire is about 40 to 1 based on my calc's. I think what we need to change is this ratio by changing the wire size to the guage or add another wire parallel to the existing to feed the gauge. By adding another wire of the same size, the amperage through the gauge would double (approximately). Still less than the limit imposed by the 4 amp fuses. The wiring harness Ford used depends upon the whether an idoit light or gauge was used, not which alternator (until the relay was needed). It appears that the factory wiring diagrams do not show all possibilities.
