Could the 1979 F100 4X4 be ordered with a factory 4 inch lift? Also, it has dual shocks on the front would this have been factory?? Thanks for your help. new to the 4X4 world.

Hi Rick. I dont know much of anything about the 4x4 trucks. But if you're doing a 400 to FE swap, you'll need an FE-specific C6 auto or a manual trans, FE or Inline 6 engine perches and mounts (they're the same), You'll probably need the transmission mount too. As far as I know, the driveshaft should not have to be lengthened or shortened. Also, trasmission cooling lines are routed a little different, but most likely can be modified/bent to work. Exhaust pipes will have to be re-bent to line up right to the manifolds/hedders. Thats about all I can think of, I'm sure I left out a bunch (wiring/etc.)

You couldnt order a 4" lift from the factory. They were all aftermarket back then, dealer installed ones were not available either. Dual shocks were just a standard feature on 4X4 1/2 tons and Broncos, but only up front.
As for the 400/FE , 400's were electronic ignition, dont forget the lil "trouble causin" module on the fender. I always had 2 side by each. When one quit workin, I just plugged it into the other. They never seemed to die forever, just needed a "rest" for a while. I ran the same 2 for 3 yrs once, switched back and forth every month or so, whenever one would just quit.

FE and 300 mounts are not the same on a 4x4. You can make 300 mounts work, but they won't bolt in to the FE spot.
The biggest problem on a '79 chassis is the frame is not drilled for the FE stand location. The frame holes are in a different spot for 351/400 trucks starting in '77. The 351/400 and FE frame stands are the same, the holes are just in a different spot. I'm sure you can drill the holes or just move your transmission crossmember to compensate though.
As hillbilly said, you couldn't order a lift from the factory. A stock 1/2 ton 4x4 sits pretty low to the ground.
